Way Below Zero

It's brrr-low zero in the Upper Midwest with very cold wind chills. The low on Monday is forecast for -15 degrees.  We have attached garages, park in ramps connected by skyway to our office buildings and some people actually like it!  Ice fishers, snow mobilers all play outside, not me, I hibernate and wait for spring in my craft room.

Yesterday there were snow flurries, pretty to look at  dancing around out the window.  January for me is snowman season.  I dug through the my vintage Christmas cards to find some snow.  An easy paper craft using the lid of a box and a sheet of scrapbook paper on the inside.  I wrapped the rest of the lid in vintage Christmas paper for the sides and back.  Garnish with buttons and rick rack and pieces you keep saving 'for something'.
If the weather would warm up we could get snow.  For now, the ski hill is making their own version and the skiers are flying down the slopes.  I just turned on an audio book and listened while my glue stick and I happily became partners.

Working full time it's harder to get to the crafts.  For all who prayed for me to find something during lay-off and then 'something else' when I only got a part time job, VICTORY!  My job is a one mile commute with great people and lots of challenges to keep me thinking!

Here's a link to the coolest place I have ever called work:

  2. Your cold weather is definitely coming our way. It's been good for creating new ice on our backyard ice rink. I understand how hard it is to balance work and crafting. It's hard to have the best of both worlds.

  5. Loving the snow box!! I know to my Minnesota girl, 30 degrees is like sunbathing weather, but to this California girl it's pretty darn cold!! I've been scrapping ice off of my car before going to work for two weeks now!! And it's only been warming up to the mid 50's during the day! Warmer today though, low 60's!! It's a crafting weekend for me...no work required!! I'm so glad you love your job!!!

    Hugs chris

  6. What a cute idea for a shadowbox...snowmen! We have been freezing our little tushies off here in Utah...but we're still not as cold as Idaho Falls. They cancelled school last week when the temps were minus 27...which took the windchill into account. I'm sure you hardy Minnesotans would scoff at our wussiness! LOL!

  7. Our weather here in north and mid TN is fickle with 70s last weekend then an ice storm and the 30s this week! Doesn't matter what the weather is here because we all have the flu and stuck in the house any way ... the positive twist turns out to be aanot having to work and getting to craft as we recoup .. crafting is good for the soul you know :) Coldest place I've ever been was MN in Jan, I remember my feet sticking to the floor board of the VW bug, and having to make a trip to Eddie Bauer for a warmer coat ... stay warm and happy crafting XO E

  8. Living in Dallas where's it crazy hot 9 months out of the year, i welcome all the cold. It's the only time i can wear my sweaters and boots and all my cute winter gear.
Having a time and place to craft though would be awesome! Stay warm.
