A Love Story

On February 4th, 1978 Mr. Wondeful, formerly  known as my boyfriend, took me out for dinner and then to a popular sledding hill in my hometown.  We had borrowed  sleds from the children we sometimes babysat.  College students will do anything to get out of the dorms!  It was a very cold night and because we were young, we didn't mind.  Today I wouldn't entertain the idea of going sledding if the temp was below zero!
I knew I was in love shortly after I met my beloved when we were both students at a Christian college; he was a junior and I was a freshman.  He was a tease, he sang to me on one of our first dates, a really dorky kid song...he almost didn't get another date, he can't sing!  We have a silly streak in common, both of us love to have fun.
After sledding we sat talking in his little red Chevette parked in front of my parent's house.  "We had fun tonight, didn't we?  Wouldn't it be great if we could be together and have nights like this whenever we wanted to?"  And then the ring came out of his pocket and for as long as we both shall live became our motto.

Every February 4th I remember that special night, there are probably more romantic proposal stories that could be told but
Of all the love stories, ours is my favorite.

And your snowman with his snowballs! Too cute for words. I always smile when I visit you here. Such a special place to visit! E

  8. What a sweet, romantic tale of young love...and such a sweet proposal. I want to follow your lead and do a Valentine post on my romance! You may have started a trend. George and I have been together since junior year of highschool. Like your sweetie, he can't sing a note. He doesn't know the words to even one song. He once memorized "Impossible Dream" when the Honor Society sang for graduation. I was sooooo glad when he forgot the words...lol! We are two lucky ladies!

  13. Tammy, I love a good romance and your story is just plain cute. My Hubs and I got engaged on Valentines Day too. Our story isn't as romantic as yours though. Although we've been together for 33 years. Happy Engagement Anniversary!

  16. What a wonderful love story it is! I think that some of the young couples that get married today always do not think for as long as we both shall live and that is so sad. I read and see the stories of the young and not so young couples that are in the spot light. They propose with diamond rings that cost more than hubby and I will make in the next 10 years or so. They spend 100s of thousands of dollars on the most expensive and the biggest wedding possible with the photo hunters trying to grab that special photo to sell to all of the magazines and television entertainment news shows. The wedding lasts longer than some of the marriages. How sad!

I will take my simple engagement ring and the plain gold band and our 30 plus love story and a wedding that cost less than 300 dollars in the year of 1982 over the biggest diamond and the fancy weddings any day. Our marriage is strong, we have survived many ups and downs, shared our joys and our sorrows, every day wasn't a rose garden but it survived because we promised as long as we both shall live.

Thank you for sharing you and your hubby's wonderful love story! Have a wonderful week and stay warm.
    Hugs,
    Lynn
